Obituary

Roberta Lorraine Travers Foster, 95 was born in Liner’s Road, Maryland. She was second child born to the late Clarence Washington and Viola Lorraine Banks Travers on August 16, 1926. She became another flower in God’s Bouquet on Wednesday, September 1, 2021, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland.

Roberta was educated in the public school system of Dorchester County graduating from F.D. St. Clair High School in 1944. Roberta attended Cosmetology School in Baltimore Md and returned to Dorchester County completing her apprenticeship under the late Mrs. Laura Stanley. Her first shop was located on the corner of Muir and Pine streets. In later years she continued with the late Mrs. Vatice Colder in the LaPettie I salon located on the corner of pine and Elm streets.   She later opened her own salon.  Known as LaPettie II located at 2305 Church Creek Road, Christ Rock, Cambridge, Maryland as the owner and operator.

She was a custodian and Food Service handler with the Dorchester County Public School System from which she retired.

Roberta was joined in holy matrimony to the late Alfred William Foster on July 3, 1948.  From this union three children were born:  Alfreda, Deborah and Robert Foster.   She gained as a special son Michael Foster.  After her marriage to Alfred, she made her home in Christ Rock.  At her passing she was the oldest living member of the Christ Rock Community.  She was a member of John Wesley United Methodist Church in Liner’s Road, Maryland.  When she married Alfred, she moved her church membership to Christ Rock United Methodist Church where she was an Usher, Member of the Senior Choir, Kitchen Committee, and the United Methodist Women’s Unit.  She was a faithful and dedicated member always greeting you with a smile.

Following the merger of the charge churches, she became a member of New Revived United Methodist Church located at 4350 Smithville Road, Taylor Island, Maryland.  Roberta has always been active in the upbringing and activities of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  Attending all school and community functions and each of their graduations. 

In her passing she leaves precious memories to be cherished by two daughters, Alfreda L. Foster, Deborah E Wooden (James) of Trappe, Maryland, two sons, Robert W Foster (Meta) of Christ Rock, Michael F. Foster (Rev. Anna) of Delmar, Maryland.  Grandchildren, Michele of (Denton, Md.), Michael Jr. (Seattle, Wa.), Tychera & Kristen (Cambridge, Md.), Shavonte (Glen Burnie, Md.), Kayln, Briana Wooden (Salisbury, Md), Kaliah Wooden and Evelena Turner (Baltimore, Md.), Great grands, Kyle, Jade, Lametrice, London, Sade, Ervin Jr., MyKara, Jayden, Kahila, Kavon, Monteena, Roman, Solomon, Saraha, and Great-Great grands, Terrell, Amir, Nasir.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred W. Foster, parents, Calvin W & Viola L. Travers, brother: Calvin Coolidge Travers, in-laws William K and Naomi E Opher Foster and other family, Uncles, Aunts and Cousins. 

Her favorite hymns were “Precious Lord”, “Sending Up My Timber”, “Rough Side of the Mountain” and “Going up Yonder”.  Her favorite Scripture passage was Psalms 23.

Even in our sorrow we hold onto the fact that a life lived with so much love, never really ends but goes on forever in the hearts of those who remain and remembered.
