Robert Arthur Blackwell

June 11, 1934 ~ December 27, 2021 (age 87)

Obituary

Robert Arthur Blackwell made his transition to the Lord on Monday, December 27, 2021. He was born on June 11, 1934, to the late Halen L. Wilson and the late Arthur Green.

Blackwell, also known as “Bob,” attended Moton High School in Easton, MD.   He joined Union Baptist Church as a member in 1984.  Bro. Blackwell was a member of Union Baptist Church for thirteen years. He worked on the farm for several years. He also worked at a laundromat called, " Clothes and Care" and the Queen Anne's Canning Factory.  After 27 years at Black and Decker, Blackwell retired in May 1996.

On June 7, 1997, Blackwell entered into a union of marriage to Pastor Shirley Murray. Into that union came four bonus children. He owned them as his own and they owned him as their own. Blackwell was a very quiet, lovable, and devoted husband. He would often say to his wife, “I never wanted to be married until I fell in love with you."  They would share their past and present experiences with each other.

Blackwell was loved by everyone. He had a very gentle voice that would catch one’s attention. He would often talk and witness about the Lord to other people, even people he met for the first time. He could strike up a conversation about Jesus quick! And that was it! Sometimes, I would have to remind him that church was o-v-e-r . . . it was time to go home! Then we would laugh! Once Blackwell got into a conversation with you about the Lord, that was it!

Blackwell cherished his friend, Deacon Scott from Chestertown, MD.  When they got together, neither one of them was in a hurry to leave.  They enjoyed each other’s company.  Their infectious laughter meant there was going to be a long conversation. Whenever I went to Pastor Beverly's church to preach, as soon as I would walk in the door, Deacon Scott was looking toward the door for Deacon Blackwell. And if he didn't see him walk in behind me, the first thing he would say to me was, “Where is my buddy?” and he would start laughing. The same thing Blackwell would ask me when I got back home: “Was my buddy there”? I never saw Blackwell so close to a brother as he was with Deacon Scott and Deacon Edward Potter.

Blackwell will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Not only by me but by many people. He leaves behind to cherish his precious and lovely moments and his legacy of love and faith to: his wife, Pastor Shirley Blackwell; one daughter, Letitia Hopkins(Keith); 4 bonus children, William Murray (Ronnesha), Paulette Frieson (Thomas), Everett Murray (Angela) and Leslie Blake; 3 brothers, Albert Blackwell, Carol Wilson (Brenda) and Terry Wilson; 2 sisters, Shirley Headen and Betty Walker; 8 grandchildren, Kalyn, Trae, James, Kenneth, Ashley, Shanai, Kiera and Kiana; 3 great grandchildren, Mekhi, Samariah and Lamar, Jr.; and 2 bonus grandchildren, William III and Aaron.
