Richard Elwood Jenkins, Sr., son of the late Kenneth and Hattie (Moaney) Jenkins, Sr., was born on August 9, 1936, in Easton, Maryland. He entered eternal rest on Sunday, February 21, 2021, at the Peninsula Regional Medical Hospital in Salisbury, Maryland, at the age of 84 years.
Richard attended the public schools in Talbot County, Maryland, before leaving to attend the family farm when his four oldest brothers answered the call of duty. He began his long career as a laborer for prominent families in Talbot and Dorchester Counties for many years until he was employed by the Firth Family of Oxford, Maryland, until his retirement. He was also a well sought-after caterer for social events and gatherings for families within the region.
He married the late Joan D. Perry in 1959; from this union, there were two children. He also married his current wife of 58 years, Agnes Jenkins, and from this union, there were also two children.
Richard was a loving friend to all who knew him. He had a huge heart and big smile, and he was always willing to help family and friends.
Richard leaves to cherish: his daughters, Joan Brannock, Anita (Fred) Major, and Carla Jenkins; son, Richard E. Jenkins, Jr.; brothers, James Jenkins of Long Woods, Maryland, and Frank (Hazel) Jenkins of Preston, Maryland; sisters, Gladys Ann Williams and Dorothy Jenkins, both of Long Woods, Maryland; grandchildren, Jermaine (Crystel) Major, Carl Brannock, LaTasha (Terrence) Brinson, Brian Brannock, Veronica Brannock, Fred Major, Jr., Devin (Tia) Marine, Ti any Ennals, and Joan (Davonte) Bel eld; 13 great-grandchildren; special friend, Sonny Pritchett; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Agnes Jane Adams Jenkins, February 14, 2021; sisters, Ella Mae Wells, Estella Jenkins, Margaret Atkins, and Willinette Gibson; brothers, William Jenkins, Kenneth Jenkins, Jr., and Raymond Jenkins; and grandson, Donnaven “Don Don” Brannock.
