Vernon G. Murray, son of the late Thelma L. Morris and James G. Murray, was born October 3, 1939, in Cambridge, Maryland. He departed this life July 12, 2020.
He graduated from Maces Lane High School, Cambridge, MD in 1957. Vernon was a dedicated worker and whatever task or challenge he was determined to complete it “his way.” Vernon worked at the Rending Plant, Connelly Containers, Pritchett’s, and The Housing Authority. He was a natural mechanic, always tinkering on something with his son, Vernon, Jr. Vernon’s second love was racing and his 1968 Ford Torino.
Although not affiliated with a church, Vernon believed in God and loved to sing gospel songs.
Vernon married Mary Brannock in his early years and together they raised Evelina Murray-Smith of Brunswick, NJ. Vernon and Mary later divorced. Vernon and Doris Lake also shared in the nurturing of a daughter, Chanelle Lake-Parker of McDaniel, Md. Later in life he was given the gift of tow more children with Susan Glidden and they raised Vernon, Jr. and Susie, then came along a grandson Liam whom he adored.
Vernon was a special and will be truly missed by his family and friends.
He leaves to mourn, 4 children: Eveline, Chanelle, Suzanne and Vernon, Jr.; 6 grandchildren: Sterling, Lanier, Sincere, Michela, Britney and Liam; 1 brother George Lee, Jr., 1 sister Agnes Lee Marion and a host of nephews, nieces other relatives and friends.
