Marshall Edward Bailey, Jr. affectionately known as “Marty”, departed this life on Sunday, May 10, 2026. He was 71 blessed years old, born on July 9, 1954, in Easton, MD. Son of the late Marshall Edward Bailey, Sr and Addie P. Bailey. He was finally able to reunite with his mom on Mother’s Day! What a blessing it was to transition on a holiday dedicated to the celebration and care of family. These are the things that Marty valued and represented.
Marty attended Talbot County Public Schools prior to fulfilling his calling as a Police Officer with the Easton Police Department. He also worked at Fox Cannery in Hillsboro, MD and Super Wards Components in Cordova, MD. He was the first black detective in Talbot County and retired after almost 20 years of service. Working full time as an Officer, Marty was the owner of Bailey’s Construction, LLC, providing home building and renovation services on the Eastern Shore - and one of the very few black landlords in Talbot and Dorchester Counties. In 1994, Marty finished building a home in Easton, where he then relocated his wife and younger son. Upon retiring from the Easton Police Department, he continued his law enforcement journey as he went on to work with the Caroline County Sheriff’s Department, serving as a Bailiff and School Resource Officer.
He was a faithful and active member of St. Matthew United Methodist Church in Longwoods MD, joining under Rev. Clarence Wayman. He served on the Usher Board and Men’s Day Committee and was President of the Trustee Committee where he was instrumental in the completion of many renovation projects.
Organizations that he served with were:

Past Exalted Rulers Council #76
Chief Antler- Served three (3) terms

Marty loved playing co-ed softball with his wife and son, Little Marty. He played with the Denton Tigers and Cordova Hawks and was a baseball fan holding Oriole season tickets, often taking his sons and grandsons to the games. His second love was basketball! He played at Chesapeake College and his team was later inducted into the Men’s Basketball Hall of Fame. His team also held the record for Wins for almost 40 years! Marty coached Easton High School Boys Junior Varsity and then went on to coach North Caroline High School Boys Varsity team where he was awarded Coach of the Year. When he wasn’t playing softball, at an Elks event or working, he loved eating ice cream and spending time with his family.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Norman “Boogie” Jones and Elliott “Peanut” Orville Groce.
