Johnny Wilson Tilghman Sr., 72, departed this life March 17, 2022, at his home. Johnny was born to the late Oscar Tilghman Sr and Beulah Tilghman Dobson on February 20, 1950. He was the youngest of nine children. He attended Dorchester County Public Schools, Class of 1969.
Johnny accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age under the leadership of the late Reverend John W. English of Mount Olive Baptist Church. Johnny is a current member of New Life Christian Church and Ministries under the leadership of Bishop Weldon M. Johnson. Johnny attended the Christian World College of Theology. Where he received a certificate of biblical studies. He was a member of The Shining Lights Chorus, The Sons of Christ and The Gospel Deliverers. He was the founder and lead singer of the Mighty Unlimited Gospel Singers. He traveled many places singing and sharing the gospel throughout the Delmarva Peninsula and abroad. He was an amazing soloist. A great quartet legend who left an inheritance to many.
Johnny worked for the State of Delaware Department of Administration Services, The Division of Facilities Management of Capital Security (State of Delaware), Bubble Bee Tuna, The Rendering Plant, Talbot County Board of Education and was currently employed at the Dorchester County Board of Education.
Johnny had a great love for Music and fishing. His love for quartet music started at a very early age. His favorite songs were Amazing Grace and Let’s Show Some Love.
Johnny leaves to mourn his children: Johnny Wilson Tilghman Jr (Patricia) Dover Delaware, Johnette Travers (Gary Sr.) Fruitland, MD, Juavanda Tilghman Cambridge, MD, Tywonda Tilghman Cambridge, Travis Downs (Corrie) Dover, DE, Benjamin Downs Dover, DE, Dontray Cornish Cambridge MD, One Son in law, Carroll Henry Sr. Salisbury, MD, and a special nephew Ganes (Man) Brooks Jr. 20 grandchildren, 22 great children, a special friend Christy Vineyard and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.
He was presided in death by his Father Oscar Tilghman Sr., his Mother Beulah Tilghman Dobson. His siblings Helen Lee Rodgers, Airie Carter, Oscar “Bow Wow” Tilghman Jr., Edward Morgan Tilghman, Lillian Robinson, Myrtle Brooks, Jerome “Bear” Tilghman Sr. and Corinthian Tilghman, A daughter Freida Henry, A grandson Gary “Pee Jay” Travers Jr. and a special nephew Derrick Brooks.
