Jack White, Sr. Obituary (2016)

Jack D. White, Sr., 76 of Berlin slipped peacefully into eternal rest, Wednesday, January 27, 2016 surrounded by his devoted grandson, Brandon Ames, daughters from Virginia and friend. He was born Dupree White on July 24, 1939 to the late Rachel White and Jack Cromedy of Columbia, South Carolina. His family affectionately called him Jack. Jack received his early education in the Columbia, South Carolina School system. At a young age, after the passing of his mother he moved to Baltimore to be raised by his beloved aunt, Annie C. Riley. It was there he attended Booker T. Washington High School. Jack’s Christian Education stemmed from Haywood Church in Columbia, South Carolina and later in the Methodist Churches in Baltimore, Maryland. He gave his life to Christ and became a member of Ambassadors for Christ International Ministries in 2013. His favorite hymns were, “Peace in the Valley” and “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot…” As a young man, in the late 50’s, Jack moved to Ocean City where he met and married the love of his life, “Nadine” Dennis on May 6, 1961. They loved to dance with their friends at the annual Masonic Gala and enjoyed entertaining many friends in their home. Jack enjoyed fishing and watching the horse races. He also enjoyed boxing, and bowling on Sundays with his children and their friends. He was an avid bowler on the league for Century 1. He enjoyed spending time with his children and included taking their friends on family vacations to the amusement and state parks, Florida and Canada. Jack was first employed by Caine Real Estate where he realized his passion for horses and attended many equestrian races to enter his employers’ daughter, Bradley. He was also employed by the Atlantic Trailer Company, Davis & Lynch Clam Boat, and the Caliban Corporation. As his health declined, Jack completed his career in 2004, retiring as the maintenance supervisor at Century 1 Condominiums for 27 years. In addition to his mother, Jack was preceded in death by his grandmother, Annie White, his favorite aunts Annie Reilly and Daisy Lee Scott (Thomas), maternal mother-in-law and father-in-law, Pauline and Martina Showell, his paternal father-in-law, John “Jack” Dennis, 3 brothers-in-law, Gary Witcher, Sr., Melvin Dennis and Wilmer Davis, and his beloved wife of 40 years, Carol “Nadine’ White. Jack’s favorite past time was spending time with his children and including their friends for Sunday bowling weekly, trips to Kings Dominion and regular vacations to Florida and Canada. Jack enjoyed fishing off the Ocean City Pier, horse races, boxing, football, basketball and baseball. He was a very committed member on the Century 1 bowling league. Jack leaves to cherish his precious memories 8 children: Valda “Sandy” Mckinney of Miami Fla; Quintin Dennis, Sr. of Delmar, De; Renocka Robinson (J. Bokey) of Salisbury, Md; Roxie Dennis (Cyril) of Berlin, Md; Keith White of Salisbury, Md; Jacqueline Artis of Portsmouth, Va, Robin White-Hicks (Christopher) of Hampton, Va and Jack Dupree “Patrick” White, Jr. of Glen Burnie, Md; brother, James Barrett of Columbia, SC; 5 sisters-in-laws; Shirley Davis of Berlin; Jeryline Jarmon (Fred) of Bishopville, Md; Doris Dennis (Harley) and Annette Bowen (Bernard) of Berlin and Joyce Henderson (Wayne) of Hochesson, DE; 1 brother-in-law, Sanford Witcher, Jr. of Glen Burnie, Md; a son-in-law, Oliver “Art” Artis of Portsmouth, Va.; 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews, a special cousin, Elouise Cobb of Columbia. SC (who also relocated with Jack to Baltimore) and her 2 children, Valerie Cobb and Raynard Sheppard of Reisterstown, Md and a devoted companion, Rosie A. Shockley.
