It is with great sadness in our hearts that the family of Gregory Bernard Height announces his ascent to heaven on Friday, June 1, 2018. Greg was 71 years of age and succumbed to extensive injuries related to a motor vehicular accident. He was one of six children of the late Bernard and Sevella Height.
He was born on Cordtown Road in Cambridge, Maryland and graduated from Maces Lane High School. This was followed by completion of a Bachelors in Business Administration at Virginia State University and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA) from Pepperdine University’s Business School.
General Motors recruited “Greg” from college and his sales career began with the sale of automobile parts. As an entrepreneur, in the early 1980’s he founded Greg Co Insurance, in Los Angeles, California, a company that secured insurance for international commercial shipments. Following nearly 30 years in the insurance industry his leadership extended to the community where he served on the Board of Directors for a public non-profit organization that provided services to over 350 chemically dependent and abused children. He was also aToastmaster, a member of 100 Black Men, and served one term as President of the Southern California Chapter of the Virginia State University Alumni Association. He enjoyed restoring old homes, international travel, and just spending time talking to friends and family.
In addition to all of his professional accolades, Gregory is acknowledged by his family as a dedicated and committed father. His contribution to his children’s success in dental and business careers was exceptional. Gregory had many friends and colleagues that would attest to his humor and wisdom, but most importantly - he knew the Lord through Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Dr. Vickie Mabry-Height, his daughter, Dr. Lillian Height, his son Bernard Height, daughter-in-law Rachel Height, two grandchildren (Elizabeth and Naomi), three sisters, Edna, Rosalyn and Bonita as well as one sister-in-law Lucinda Whittington. Gregory will also be forever remembered by his numerous cousins, extended family, and dear friends.
(Memorial donations in memory of Gregory B. Height can be sent to Union Chapel AME Church.)
