Geraldine (Burroughs) Kane departed this earthly life to be with her heavenly father on October 26, 2019. She was born on May 11, 1928 to the late Nellie Thomas and Alfred F. Burroughs, the youngest of their three children.
She graduated from Frederick Douglass St. Clair High School in 1944.
She was affectionately known as Mrs. Kane, Mom Gerald, Nana, or Me-Mom. She was a dear friend to many and an all around beautiful person with an infectious smile that won the hearts of many.
Early in life, she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Lord and Savior. She began worshipping at St. Luke United Methodist Church located on Pine Street and continued to fellowship with that congregation when it relocated on Bradley Avenue. She was a dedicated and faithful member, attended church regularly and continued as long as her health allowed her to do so. She sang with the Senior Choir, was a member of the Chicken Pluckers and was a devoted woman of God.
She proudly wore the title of the “Queen of South Pine Street” because of her loyalty and dedication to the historical reunion activities of the street she always called home.
Her employment history includes a seamstress at the Bogash Sewing Company, a teacher’s aide at the Elm Street Day Care Center, a book binder at Western Printing Publishing Company and a home health provider for the state of Maryland, a position she held until retirement.
Her mother; father; a beloved daughter Sandra Geraldine Thompson; a brother Alfred Burroughs Jr., sister-friend Leotha Slacum; sisters Katherine Gray, Helen (Faustina) Meekins, Geraldine Meekins, and a special nephew Alfred Slacum preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Jerry T. Burroughs and Gary C. Kane of Cambridge, MD and Thomas J. Henry Jr. (Beverly) of Wilmington DE; one daughter, Bonnie J. Kane, the light of her life, of Laurel, MD; three half-brothers, Duane Tilghman, Alfred Tilghman and Brian Tilghman (Tywanda); a half-sister, Tyese Adegbehingbe (Clement); a son in law, Robert Thompson; grandchildren, Tracie Henry, Tonya Thompson (Derrick), Tashi Henry; Sonya Smith (Marques), Don Chester, Robert Thompson, Jr. (Ashley), Cortez Molock, and Keyanda Molock; great grandchildren, Chardon Saunders; Gary Young, Coree Young; Mecca Henry, Mykira Thompson, Robert (RJ) Thompson, and Ramour Thompson; London Molock; and Tashi Henry Jr.; and special daughters, Tommaine Henry, Joanna Henry, Debra Lyles, Judea Smith and Barbara Jordan.
