George Gould Sr.

December 29, 1924 — October 24, 2018

George was born December 29, 1924 (93) and raised in Queenstown, Maryland, in Queen Anne’s County to Richard and Nannie (Wilson) Gould.  George’s mom passed at an early age and was raised by his older sisters (3) and brothers (4).  His early education was in the Queen Anne’s County Public school system.  After leaving school, he held different jobs and decided to join the United States Navy (May 19, 1943 through March 15, 1946), receiving an Honorable Discharge from the United States Navy, as Seaman First Class, USNR.  While in the Navy, he received several ribbons and a Victory Medal.

Upon his return to civilian life, he later became a long time member of Bryan’s United Methodist Church as an usher and other capacities (see below).  He worked in different job capacities and focused his life long career on being a Bus Driver for the County, and later buying his own bus and becoming one of the contract bus drivers for the County.  He served in this capacity for 54 years and was known for his no nonsense if you rode on his bus.  As a result of his contributions to Queen Anne’s County, he was well known within the County.   He enjoyed playing cards, games and traveling with family and friends.

Throughout his years he served in the following capacity:

Commander Post 21, Centreville, Maryland
President, NAACP, Queens Anne’s County (where he helped a lot of people to get jobs, or who needed the assistance of the NAACP as a result of discrimination)
Served as Cub Scout leader
Served on the Board of Elections
Served as Trustee at the VFW Post Grasonville, Maryland for two years
Served in the American Legion Post 77, Easton, Maryland
Served on the Usher Board at Bryan’s United Methodist Church, member of The Methodist Men, and Chairman of the Administrative Council
