Dorothy Carter Gaylor born March 26, 1922 to the late Pearl Randall Carter and Edward Carter, but raised by her mother and stepfather Roosevelt Coleman in Philadelphia PA. On December 29, 2017 it was deemed that Dorothy Carter Gaylor transition peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She grew up in several locations to include New Church, Virginia, and finally Cambridge Maryland where she completed as much schooling as was necessary in the Dorchester County public school system. She even attempted to finish Candy Striper Schooling. She was employed in several factories and businesses in Talbot and Dorchester County with her last employer being R. J. Reynolds. She then entered into her own business of entertainment for friends and neighbors. A great lover of animals, she raised genie pigs, rabbits, cats, and dogs whom were her companions and greatest love. She married James Gaylor while he served in the U.S. Army. They were married for over 17 years before their union ended. Prior to her marriage, she had two wonderful children by George “Buster” Kiah, George “Bunkum” Carter and Ruby Carter Woolford whom she raised in Dorchester County.
She was preceded in death by her then ex-husband James Gaylor; her son George-1992; her daughter Ruby-2004; 3 sisters: Katherine Cornish-1985, Evelyn Combs-2010, , Bernice Bryan-1987; one brother Theodore-2001; 2 granddaughters: Dorothy Woolford Rhodes-2008, Pamela Carter-2014; one grandson Harold Carter-1994; one great granddaughter Chovonne Woolford Dolberry-2003; and the love of her life and companion James Turlington-1964.
Dorothy leaves to cherish fond memories her grandchildren: Diane Wheatley (William), George Woolford III (Alice), Sharon Egerson (John), Carol Dennis, Steven Woolford (Robin), Cheryl Morange (Edwin), James Woolford (Areatha), Craig Carter, Ravonne Carter, George Carter Jr., and a host of great grands: William Jr., Danielle, Jermaine, Antoine, Sterling, Debra, Rebekka, Alesha, Stephanie, Steven, Tamiko, Ebony, Marquita, Jamelle, James, Gavin, Jessica, Adam, Brittney, Maurice, Craig Jr, Zaraider, Veronia, Ravonne, Shawntai, and Jayquan, Michael, Melissa, Greg, and a host of great-great grands and great-great-great grandchildren. Special thanks go out to all the dedicated caregivers over the years, the dedicated and loving staff of Dimples Manor, and especially to her long standing caregiver, companion, and friend Valerie Ellis who wouldn’t hesitate to drop everything to see about her Dorothy.
