Doris Cephas

April 14, 1926 — January 6, 2019

Doris Rosella Chase Cephas age 92 entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 6, 2019 at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Easton, Maryland.

Doris was born May 14, 1926 in Easton, Maryland, the daughter of the late Harvey G. Chase, Sr and Irene Qualls Chase. She joined Trappe United Methodist Church and attended the Talbot County Public School System.

She thoroughly enjoyed reading, athletics, cooking and spending time with her children, grandchildren and other family and friends. Several of her grandchildren called her “Grandma Sugar” because she loved hugs and kisses, often giving and receiving.

Despite her hectic schedule while employed at the former H&G restaurant she always took time for her children. Doris was a strong, independent and uncompromising mother, assuring that her children were given every available opportunity. Sacrificing much to assure that her children could have a good life.

If that meant visiting classes, attending baseball games, threating when grades were not what she though they should be and driving you to college in a car that was not so reliable. That was our mom!!

The wife of the late Cleamon Cephas, the couple resided in Fork Neck, Maryland. Family can recall so many exciting and enjoyable times spent with the couple. There are so many wonderful stories to share.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Patricia Lee Freeman and her brother Reverend Harvey G. Chase, Jr. her sons-in-law Horace Johnson, Sr and Oliver Freeman.

Memories of her are to be cherished by her children Timothy Chase (Roxanne) Trappe, Maryland, Dr. Stanley Chase (Yvette) Lansing, Michigan and Carolyn Johnson Hollister, North Carolina and Gilbert Cephas, Cambridge, Maryland; her grandchildren, Nicole Levin, Monica Chase, Kent Chase, Kurt Chase, Doris Santiago, Chynne Chase, Kim Chase, Ina Holden, Brandy Brown, Donovan Skinner, Horace Johnson, Jr., Dr. Keith Johnson, Darry Scott, grandson of the heart; a sister-in-law whom she loved Mary Chase. She was loved by cousins, friends and neighbors in the community who called her “Miss Doris”. In addition to her grandchildren she had 30 great grandchildren, many great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
