Donnie Harris

May 6, 1959 — December 30, 2020

Sergeant First Class, Donnie Andre Harris, 61, departed this life peacefully in his Newport News, VA home on December 30, 2020.

SFC Harris was born on May 6, 1959 graduating from Cambridge- South Dorchester High School class of 1977. Upon graduation Donnie joined the Army and attended basic training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. Upon completing basic training Donnie was assigned to Fort Hood, TX. with several campaigns in    Germany, Hawaii, also a Gulf War Veteran with numerous accommodations. Donnie was a loyal soldier and dedicated to the Army for 22 years, after retiring in, 1998. After retirement Donnie cruised into civilian life as a building inspector for the City of Cambridge and transferred to the City of Hampton, VA and retired in October 2020 after a brief illness.

Above all Donnie loved FAMILY. Always there for ALL. His  loving kindness, stern demeanor was what we all loved best. Donnie was always showing off his excellent grilling skills, with a pop-up BBQ at any time.

Donnie leaves to cherish fond memories to his mother, Susanne Harris Cornish (James), step-mother, Gloria Cephas, siblings: Rodney Harris (Teresa), Miko Collins, Tamiko Collins-Pinder (James), Charles Pinder (Cora Mae), Rozelle Lee, Kim Lee, Deborah Lee, aunts: Glenda Taylor, Arlette Sampson (Rufus)Tina Cornish (Bishop Keith Cornish), Vernice Badger, the Rev. Gloria Killings, Alfreda Redding, and Saundra Opher, uncle, Eugene Cephas, and a host of great aunts, nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his father, Donald L. Cephas, Donnie was preceded in death by his grandparents, Percy and Wille Mae Cephas and Emory and Beatrice Harris, sister Terry Pinder aunt Joan Chester, and uncles Thomas Harris, Sr., Clifford Cephas and Samuel Cephas.
