Sherwood Lewis Wongus, affectionately known as Woody, 67 of Cambridge, MD departed this life on Sunday, July 11, 2021, at Peak Health at the Pines.
Sherwood was born July 31, 1953, in Cambridge and was the son of the late Charles Woodrow Wongus Sr. and Bertie Jolley Wongus.
Sherwood graduated from Cambridge High School, Class of 1971, and loved working on high performance cars. His schoolmates affectionately called him "the boy who loved cars." Having an enthusiasm for cars and trucks, Sherwood studied Auto Repair at the International Correspondence School Scranton, PA, Technology of Transmission School and General Motors Training Center Fairfax, VA. Sherwood received various Certificates of Excellence during his field of studies. In later years, he worked as an apprentice under Beanie Hopkins and Richard Thurman.
In 1992, Sherwood met Flora Arreda, the love of his life and soulmate. They made their love official as they united in holy matrimony on May 25, 1996. He spent the rest of his life proving his unwaning and endearing love for his soulmate.
Sherwood worked as an auto mechanic at North Auto Service Station, Wongus Taxi Service, and Hecklers Service Center for a total of 16 years. In 1986, he began his journey of entrepreneurship and opened Woodies Auto Repair. In addition, he was the Co-Owner of S&L Auto Shop. Sherwood remained employed at the Dorchester County Highway Department as a Heavy-Duty Mechanic for 18 years until his retirement.
Sherwood enjoyed collecting coins, model cars, watching westerns, football, baseball, and afternoon naps.
Sherwood attended Zion Baptist in his Christian walk. Woody use to tell his co-workers all the time "Man you better get closer to God".
He was preceded in death by his father Charles W. Wongus Sr., mother, Bertie J. Wongus and his brother Charles W. Wongus Jr.
Cherishing his memory is his loving and devoted wife Flora Arreda Wongus; 2 sons of Cambridge: Richie White, Jr (Ebony) and Bronson White Sr. (Keiana Monae); 2 grandsons: Richie White, III and Bronson White, Jr.; 4 sisters: Dorothy Pinder of Philadelphia, PA, Laurine Ennals (Buddy), Evelyn Wongus, and Roberta Wongus, all of Cambridge; one brother, Richard Wongus (Rene) of Salisbury; 2 brothers-in-law: Savia Sharp (Debbie) of Fort Washington, MD and Martin Sharp (Cherril) of Cambridge; 2 aunts: Annie Mae Jolley and Gloria Wongus of Cambridge; and a host of special nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Sherwood will be fondly remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him. Although we will miss his physical presence, we are comforted by the assurance that we will one day meet again.
