Catherine Riley

June 10, 1942 — August 21, 2021

Catherine Janie Riley, 79 of Cambridge, MD went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 21, 2021, at Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware. She was born June 10, 1942, to the late Edward McCready and Rosie Johnson McCready in Cambridge.

Catherine was the youngest of 5 children. She was educated in the Dorchester County school system. Catherine was a renowned graduate of Maces Lane High School, Class of 1960. She was formerly married to Marvelee Riley, and from this union a beautiful baby girl was born, Marvalette Riley.

As Catherine grew in her early adult life, she continued her Christian education and religious training at St Luke United Methodist Church under the leadership of the late Rev Harvey Chase. She continued her Christian fellowship under her present pastor, Rev Jerome Tilghman. Her beautiful voice was often heard singing with her family singing group for many years, the Johnson Singers.

Catherine was a loving person but a plain outspoken person, who said what she meant, and meant what she said. She was no stranger to work. Catherine worked for Rob Roy, Coldwater Seafood, Camtec, and then retired after 25 years of service from Genesis Health Care, The Pines.

Catherine leaves to love and cherish her fond memory, her daughter, Marvalette Riley of Cambridge; a granddaughter, Roszina Riley Martin (Doug) of Pennsylvania, a grandson, Sylvester Molock, Jr. (Stephanie) of Cambridge; her great grandchild: Kateria Riley, Ajiona Riley, NaMari Molock, Ayden and Aspen Cain, and Douglas Riley; one brother, Edward Jones of Delaware; 2 nieces: JoAnn McCready and Valencia Stagg; nephews: Dwight James, Lawrence James, Leonard, Reginald, Arthur Jr., and Michael McCready; 2 special godsons: Harvey Hill and Dontray Jackson; a special cousin, Serena Gregg; a number of special friends: Yvonne Jackson, Jaqueline Wheatley, Wanda Smith, Portia Giles, Gladys Fields, and Gloria Camper,  and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Catherine was preceded in death by 4 brothers: John, Arthur, Nathaniel, and Edward McCready.
