Martha Elizabeth (Lewis) Cephas

November 12, 1932 ~ November 12, 2018 (age 86)

Martha Elizabeth Lewis Cephas, 86 of Cambridge, Maryland peacefully departed this earthly life and transitioned to eternal life on Monday, November 12, 2018 at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Dorchester in Cambridge. She was born November 12, 1932 in Dinwiddie, Virginia, the eldest child of Zerlie Woodley and John Lewis.

Martha received her education from the Dinwiddie School System.  She was employed with various companies within the area including Bumble Bee Seafood and Coldwater Seafood.  Prior to her retirement she was a seasonal worker for J.M. Clayton Company.

At a young age, she moved to Cambridge where she met the love of her life Melvin Cephas.  They were joined in Holy Matrimony on January 29, 1960.  Martha knew Jesus Christ as her Personal Savior.  Often you could hear her singing her favorite song “Better Days.”  Center Street Church of God, which later evolved into Refuge Temple Church of God under the leadership of the late Rev. Hattie L. Stanley, is where Martha received her Christian foundation.  Later, she attended Holy Temple COGIC with her late husband Melvin ultimately  returning to Refuge Temple.

Martha left her family with abounding beautiful memories.  Her children are Bishop Dr. Carl Lewis (Thelma) of Binghamton, NY, Jacqueline Abram (Louis) of Fayetteville, NC, Evelyn Rideout (Leroy) of Seaford, DE, Calvin Cephas of Cambridge, Lance Cephas (Janet) of Cambridge, Gary Cephas (Karen) of Cincinnati, OH, Dwight Cephas of Cambridge, Monica Cephas of Cambridge and Bevelyn Cephas-Quidas (Michael) of Cambridge; a 2 granddaughters she raised as her own: Tonya Sutton (Ronald) of Fredericksburg, VA and Victoria Wilson of Philadelphia, PA; one daughter in-law, Margo Cephas of Sydney, Australia; one sister in-law, Margaret Cephas of Hurlock; a son in-law, James Ennals of Cambridge; 29 grandchildren; 70 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren; two faithful missionaries who visited her faithfully to pray and encourage her Rev. Elsie Ennals and Bernice Perry and her home health aide Renita Cornish.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years Melvin Cephas, a son, Melvin Tyrone Cephas, a daughter, Lisa Cephas Ennals, siblings Pinkie Lewis, Daisy Lewis, Shirley Hayes and Garland Lewis and James Lewis.
