On Monday, February 25, 2019, an angel of mercy descended and gently lifted from our midst, our dear loved one, Jacalyn Johnson Stanley Dennard.
Our beloved Jacalyn was born in Cambridge, MD on September 1, 1952 to the late Mr. Thomas E. and Mrs. Gladys L. Johnson.
Jacalyn was the recipient of a profound educational background through the public schools of Dorchester County. She attended St. Clair Elementary School, Mace’s Lane High School, and Cambridge High School. Her high school graduating class in 1970 was the first integrated class in the history of Dorchester County. In 1974, she married the late Gregory Stanley. From that union two children were born. In later years, she met and married the late Leroy Dennard.
She continued her education by matriculating at Bowie State College where she received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education. In her continued quest for knowledge, she persevered until she received a Master’s Degree from Salisbury State University.
Her passion for education channeled her in the direction of becoming an early childhood educator, where she unselfishly rendered loyal and dedicated service to the school districts of Baltimore, MD, Lawton, OK, Wicomico County, and Dorchester County. Because of outstanding performance as an educator in Baltimore, MD, in 1988 she was esteemed with the prestigious honor as “Teacher of the Year”.
In addition to her profound teaching career, she also served as Executive Director of the Dorchester County Family Support and Early Head Start Center.
Jacalyn was baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and received the gift of the Holy Ghost. She was a faithful member of Jesus the Christ Ministries of the Apostolic Faith, under the tutelage of her brother, Elder Cornell Johnson, whom she greatly honored and respected.
She was truly a phenomenal woman who was loved, admired and respected by many, especially her two most precious possessions, her son Gregory Stanley and his devoted wife Robin of Cambridge, MD and her daughter Jacalyn Angelle Stanley of Toledo, Ohio; a stepson, Cornell Stanley (Carla) of Cambridge, MD; her siblings, Barbara Jordan (William) of Middletown, DE, Jonathan E. Johnson of Cambridge, MD and Cornell Johnson (Deliah) of Seaford, DE; grandchildren, Gavin Stanley of Toledo, Ohio, Gianna Stanley of Towson, MD, and Jamece Molock and Justice Hall of Cambridge, MD; great grandchildren Saj’ Mhir Christian Xavier McNair and Asa Armoni Hall; uncle, Edward Major of Cambridge and a host of other relatives and friends, including her church family.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death also by a wealth of others who profoundly impacted her life.
