Today we’ve come together to send home one of God’s best creations.
On the 28th day of July, 2018, Gustina Shields Harmon, affectionately known as “Mrs. Gussie”, passed away peacefully at the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center in Easton, Maryland due to her failing health conditions.
Born July 12, 1944 in Eastern Shore Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Clarence E. Shields and Lucinda Nock Shields. Early on, she attended the public schools within Accomack County and later moved to Eastern Shore Maryland with her late husband, Milton Harmon Sr. and their five children to start a new life. Gustina began working for Buddy Harrisons. She later became a valued member of the kitchen staff at the Inn at Perry Cabin. Gustina retired after 26 years of faithful service.
Gustina was legendary for her baking recipes i.e., cheese bread, scones, white macadamia nut cookies and banana nut bread. She also loved riding in the care. She didn’t have to “get out” or “get in” the ride was enjoyment enough. She loved decorating her home, chit chatting with friends and family, music and dancing. Most of all taking care of home and being with family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her late husband, Milton Harmon Sr., a daughter, Donna G. Harmon, seven siblings, Anna Mae, Martha, Odessa, Luevenia, Bernice, Charles and Clarence Shields.
