Emerson Nathan Woolford Sr. of Mappsville, VA, passed away on Friday, November 29, 2019 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, MD surrounded by family.
Emerson was born in Cambridge, MD to the late Mary Elizabeth Woolford and George Woolford Sr. He was a product of the Dorchester County School System where he graduated from Frederick Douglas High School in the Class of 1948. After graduation, he enlisted into the Army where he served two years in the Korean War.
He was a man of many talents. Emerson retired from government service as a USDA food inspector of over 20 years. He was employed with other businesses in the area where he served as a security guard.
His hobbies were carpentry and baking. Emerson could make a mean sweet potato pie and also loved to travel.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Emerson Cornish, first wife, Betty Woolford Robinson, second wife, Thelma D. Woolford and four brothers, Harvey, Calvin, Russell and George Woolford Jr.
Emerson is survived by his last sibling Sara Woolford Foster; an uncle, Frederick Cornish; children, Emerson Woolford Jr., Ronald Woolford, Larry Woolford-Johnson (Rene), Kevin Woolford Travers (Sandra), Louis Woolford (Debbie), Brenda Woolford, Ray Meekins, Cassandra Meekins, Sandra Woolford and Marlo Lee; step children, Lydia Betz and Edward Byrd. He also leaves to mourn a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
