Edith Corethia Tilghman, 82 departed this life on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at Chesapeake Woods in Cambridge, Maryland. She was born on May 28, 1935 in Taylors Island, Maryland. She was the daughter of the late George Tilghman and Naomi Tilghman. Edith attended the Taylors Island Elementary School and F.D. St. Clair High School in Cambridge. She was employed by several garment manufacturing companies as a seamstress in Cambridge and Hurlock. She also was employed part time by Walmart her retirement.
Edith was a member of New Revived UM Church. She served as a lay delegate to the annual conference of the old Delaware conference. Edith served as chairperson for the Homecoming Committee and was a member of the Loyalty Gospel Singers at Lanes United Methodist Church, Taylors Island. Edith was passionate about family and was a faithful member of the Taylors Island Homecoming Family Reunion committee.
Edith leaves to cherish her memory 5 sons: Reverend Jerome E. Tilghman, Sr. (Linda) of Cambridge, Eugene V. Tilghman, Sr. of Oxon Hill, Alfred Tilghman (Lakesha), Brian Tilghman (Tywanda) both of Cambridge; Duane Tilghman, Sr. (Danielle) of Spring Lake, North Carolina; 2 daughters: Nechelle Britt (Larry) of Ridgely, Tyese Adegbehingbe (Clement) of Cambridge; 7 siblings: Theodore Cornish, Nolan Cornish, Anthony Tilghman all of Baltimore, Arvell Cornish of Cambridge, Roy Tilghman (Minnie) of Bloomfield, Connecticut, Deacon Irvin Monroe Tilghman (Delores) of Bowie, Regina Pledger of Newark, New Jersey; 15 grandchildren: Jerome E. Tilghman, Jr. (Constance), Nicole Cephas (Jermaine), Ashley Tilghman, Eugene V. Tilghman, Jr., Troy James, Jamar Height, Andrea Thompson, Jael Tilghman, Jahmei Tilghman, Darius Tilghman, Ja’Bryant Elliott, Kingsley Adegbehingbe, DevJuan Tilghman, Duane Tilghman, Jr., Danijah Tilghman; 9 great grandchildren: Kendall Tilghman, Keturah Hill, Ke’Ziah Cephas, Ja’Bria Tilghman, Eugene V. Tilghman, III, Ja’Leah Tilghman, Ja’Kayla Tilghman, Tori James, Brysen Tilghman; 2 aunts: Julia Cornish and Ida Coakley; 2 god-children: Sonya McGee and Joel Washington. and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Edith was preceded in death by 2 children: Gregory Tilghman and Sharon Tilghman; 2 brothers: Dan Tilghman and George Tilghman; one sister Naomi Janet Travers.
