Ernest Lamar Smith, 55 of Cambridge passed on July 4, 2017 at University of Maryland Shore Health Center @ Dorchester. Ernest, better known as Ernie, was born February 10, 1962 in Cambridge to Lorraine D Thompson and the late Ernest Thompson, Sr.
Ernie attended the public schools of Dorchester County. He was employed with POK and Coldwater. His last employment was with the Bradford House in Cambridge, where he worked until he passed. Ernie loved to cook on the grill. He was known as the Barbeque Grill Master and skilled craftsman. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting guns, and investments. Ernie was an all-around handyman.
In addition to his mother, Ernie leaves to cherish fond memories 3 sons: Dontre Smith and Davine Smith of Cambridge, and Lavar Smith of Salisbury; 2 daughters: Tykisha Jones and Ernesha Smith of Salisbury; 8 grandchildren: DeAngelo Brown, Jr., De’zirah Brown, Jerry Lee Bagwell, Jr., all of Salisbury, Daimon Smith, and Damia Smith both of Preston, Jaymir Cooper of New York, and Khamari Smith of Cambridge; 4 sisters: Tangela Thompson, Vanita Thompson, Elyon (Robert) Green, and Jocelyn Dudley all of Cambridge; 3 brothers: Ronnell Thompson, Jr., Gordon (Cindy) Stanley, and Ernest (Jennifer) Thompson, Jr.; 6 aunts: Loretta Smith, Elaine (Doug) Cephas, Brenda Haward, Linette (Andre) Smith all of Cambridge, Cassandra (Charles) Payne and Thelma Wilson both of Glen Burnie; 9 uncles: Leroy Smith of Colorado, Donald Thompson, Russell Smith, Jr., and Cyril Thompson of Cambridge, Wilmore (Louvenia), and Linwood (Linda) Smith of Trappe, Narvel and Carvel Smith of Cambridge, Thomas (Donna) Thompson, Hilton (Peggy) Hayward of Baltimore, and David Thompson of California; 2 great aunts: Valerie Holcombe of Baltimore, and Juanita (Franklin) Webb of Atlanta, Georgia, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his father, Ernie is preceded in death by his stepfather Roland Thompson; his maternal grandmother Margaret Smith; 4 aunts: Carolyn Lee Thompson, Vivian Johnson, Josephine Thompson, and Joyce Goldsborough; and one uncle James Thompson.
