Charles Eugene Stanley Sr., 73 of Cambridge, departed this life on Saturday, September 2, 2017 at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland.

Born June 20, 1944 in Church Creek, MD he was the son of Rosie Payne. He was educated in the public schools of Dorchester County and was a graduate of Maces Lane High School, Class of 1962.  He enlisted in to the United States Army in 1965 serving during the Vietnam War Era and was honorably discharged in 1968. 

Upon his return to Cambridge,  “Charlie Quick” and “Pop”, as he was affectionately called, was employed with Connelly Containers for numerous years as a switchboard operator and retired from Allen Foods after 16 years of service as a Machine Operator.

On December 19, 1969 in Salisbury, Maryland, he married Shirley Stanley.

He attended Salisbury Church of God under Hattie L. Stanley.  Then it changed to Center St. Church of God in Cambridge, which later became Refuge Temple Church of God.  He served on Men’s Choir, Sanctuary Choir and was a faithful van and bus driver both at Center St. and Refuge Temple.

His hobbies were hauling junk and collecting radios and watches fixing everything with W-D40. He loved quartet music, especially the Keynotes and the Mighty Clouds of Joy. Pop was a Baltimore Raven fan who enjoyed watching car racing on TV and in person. His favorite food was spaghetti, steak and baked potatoes, favorite restaurant KFC and favorite tv shows were Martin and Sanford and Son.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Rosie Payne, four brothers, Donald Payne, Rory Askins, James Manokey and Wendell Vaughn, uncle, George Askins and aunts, Elsie Churchwell, Ella Mae Downes, Valerie Woods, Marzella Elliott and Eva Burton. 

His memory shall be cherished by his wife, Shirley Stanley of Cambridge; children, LaTanya Newton (Adrian) of Cambridge, MD, Charles Stanley Jr. (Sandra) of Trappe, MD, Carla Stanley of Glen Burnie, MD, Andre Stanley of Silver Spring, MD, Crystal Stanley-Downes, Esquire (Claude) of Laurel, MD, Tiffany Stanley (Shawann) of Richmond, VA and Nicole Stanley of Cambridge, Maryland; grandchildren, Jasmine “Annie” Stanley, Alexis Newton and Jakai Rhoden of Cambridge, MD, Jace and Corey Downes of Laurel, MD; brothers, Ernest Payne of Cambridge, MD, Douglas Askins of Baltimore, MD, Eddie Manokey, Ernest Beasley (Stephanie) all of Cambridge, MD and Tyrone Beasley (Florence) of Delaware; sisters, twin sisters, Jeannie Wilson (Raymond), Janie Keene (Nathaniel), Evelina Nixon (Spencer), Lennette Smith (Andre) and Lois Young (Melvin) all of Cambridge, MD, Rose Cephas (Jerome) of Hurlock, MD, Yvonne Robinson and Iris Barnes of Richmond, VA, Sheila Askins of Baltimore, MD, Ann Springs of Rockville, MD and Constance Jenkins of Florida; uncle, Leon Askins (Ann) of Cambridge, MD; aunts, Savannah Askins of New York and Delphine Mitchell of New York  and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. However a special niece and nephew, Yolanda Parker and Ernest Payne III of Cambridge, MD.
